MY STORY

Melanie Bracewell is an award winning writer and comedian.

Melanie Bracewell has quickly carved out a path in the comedy scene with her impressive list of credits, showing she has a writing skill set well beyond her years. A series writer for all four seasons of the hit show Wellington Paranormal as well as taking on the role of Executive Story Editor for Apple TV’s Time Bandits. She won Best Comedy Script at the New Zealand Television Awards for her episode about a sentient fatberg taking over Wellington.

Bracewell started her comedy career in New Zealand. She won the RAW Comedy Quest, 7 Days Comedy Apprentice Award, Breakthrough Comedian of the Year Award, Best Newcomer Award and the prestigious Billy T Award in just 3 years of performing. Bracewell frequently sold out shows up and down the country.

With regular appearances on 7 Days, The Project and The Comedy Gala, Melanie became a mainstay of New Zealand television.

Longtime fans of Bracewell will remember her tumblr blog Meladoodle, which she started in high school. Gaining over 200,000 followers and millions of likes, she knows the internet well. One post even appeared on Conan. She credits her success with this early interest in joke-writing.

When the pandemic hit, Melanie set her sights back on social media. She earned millions of views with her impressions of Jacinda Ardern, earning attention from the BBC and various other news outlets. Even the Prime Minister herself gave it her badge of approval, inviting Melanie to perform at an annual Labour Party event. Across all platforms, Melanie has racked up over 1 million followers.

During her early years, Bracewell frequently made trips across the ditch to appear on Have You Been Paying Attention, and tour around Australia. Her show The Rumours Are True earned the Director’s Choice Award, which she accepted in her netball uniform.

In 2021, Melanie Bracewell made the move to Australia to host a new TV show called The Cheap Seats. The show was an instant success, earning a Logie for Most Outstanding Entertainment Show. Bracewell also earned a nomination for Most Popular New Talent after the first season.

Bracewell still frequently returns to her home country, taking out the Taskmaster NZ trophy in 2023.

Melanie has captured the attention of other international audiences as well. She was invited to perform at the exclusive Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, The Gotham Comedy Club in New York, and The Comedy Store in LA.

In 2024 she toured the UK with her critically acclaimed show Forget Me Not, before releasing the show as a debut special. She then took her new show Attack of the Melanie Bracewell to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, selling out her run and earning rave reviews. She rounded out her year of success with an appearance on the wildly popular panel show QI.
